The Brookfield Lions Club would like to take this opportunity to thanks all of the runners, sponsors and support crew for their participation in the 23rd Annual Brookfield Lions Run for Sight held on New Year's Day. Everyone lucked out on the weather this year, as the roads were clear of snow from the night before, and the sun came out as the runner's set off. Congratulations to overall winners Claudia Nero and Geoff Nelson, and to Master's winners Emmy Stocker and Joseph Lemay, for their tremendous efforts.

Thanks go out to the Brookfield Police Department and the Department of Public Works for clearing the roads for our runners following a New Year's Eve snow event, and to the custodial crew at Brookfield High School for providing a safe, warm and dry place for everyone in attendance. The Brookfield Lions showed up in force, with more than 25 members serving as marshals out on the course.

We also thank our major sponsors, without which this race could not be put on year after year. All proceeds will be donated to the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation and other local charities.

The Run for Sight is the first event in Brookfield's own "Four Seasons Challenge," a road-racing series initiated several years ago in partnership with the Brookfield Parks & Recreation Department. Upcoming events include the Mother's Day 5-K Run on May 9, 2010, the Brookfield Lions -- JDRF Strides to Cure Diabetes 5-Mile Run on June 13, 2010, and the Halloween 5-K Run on Oct. 31, 2010. We hope to see you at these events.
