On Sept. 30, First Selectman David Campbell declared October Domestic Violence Awareness month by way of a proclamation ceremony at Town Hall. In rememberence of victims of domestic violence, 104 purple ribbons were tied on trees lining the downtown area and Noroton Heights. Each ribbon represents one of the 104 domestic disturbance calls made to the Darien Police Department during 2009-10. The Darien Domestic Violence Task Force was formed in 2005 and is a partnership of community organizations and volunteers whose focus is raising awareness about the effects of domestic violence and the support services for victims through the Domestic Violence Crisis Center.
