Winners in nine categories in the 32nd annual community-sponsored awards exhibition at the Rowayton Arts Center received almost $5,000 dollars in prizes during the May 1 opening reception.

Local award winners by category are: Acrylics -- First Place: Roz Emmons of Darien, Second Place: Edith McLean of Rowayton, Third Place: Peter Thoren of Darien; Drawings -- Honorable Mention: Lynn Massey of Rowayton; Oils -- Second Place: Lilly Langotsky of Rowayton; Photography -- First Place: Vicki French Smith of Darien; Second Place: Rick Pank of Rowayton; Prints -- First Place: Lisa Thoren of Darien.

Distinguished artist Ann Chernow selected the prize winners from 91 entries by Arts Center members.

"It's always a pleasure to see people making art and I enjoyed seeing all the work in this exhibit, some of which is extraordinarily good," she said.

In addition to the award winners, work by the following local artists is in the exhibit: Darien -- Joanna Bridges, Ben Larrabee, Madeleine Mueller, Dana Munro and Jan Raymond; Rowayton -- Betty Ball, Michael Boll, Joel Flora, Sarah French, Hanneke Goedkoop, Mindy Green, Pierre Lahaussois, Dana Laird, Barbara Murphyk Margo Reynolds Packer, Marilyn Parker, Jeanette Young Pertz, Eunice Roy, Robert Sachs and Jeannine Soper.

The exhibition of high-quality art in all media continues through May 30. The Arts Center gallery at 145 Rowayton Avenue is open from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is free.
