MADISON — The Arts Center Killingworth will present its Autumn Arts Festival on the Madison Town Green, running Oct. 7-9. Hours on Saturay are Saturday from 9:30-5 p.m. and Sunday from 12-5 p.m. The rain date is Monday, Oct. 9, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
The festival is filled with award-winning artists and fine artisans from throughout Connecticut and the tri-state region. Located at Boston Post Road (Route 1) and Copse Road, the festival includes representational and abstract painters working in oil, watercolor and acrylic as well as, photographers, collage artists, potters, glass and fabric artisans, and fine jewelry designers. Artisans exhibiting on the Green feature those working with mixed media, wood, glass, fabric, yarn, botanicals, silver, copper and semi-precious stones.
For the fourth year, the festival includes a six-week juried group gallery show at Spectrum Gallery and Artisans Store in Centerbrook, which runs until Nov. 5. Select pieces by festival artists are presented and include painting, photography and mixed media collage, with the Store offering many one-of-a-kind fine crafts. Spectrum Gallery, an expansion of the Arts Center Killingworth, located at 61 Main Street, Centerbrook, is open Wednesday-Saturday from 12-6 p.m and Sunday from 12-5 p.m.
“The Autumn Arts Festival is a lovely way to enjoy a beautiful fall weekend on the Shoreline of Connecticut,” said Barbara Nair, Executive Director of the Arts Center Killingworth and Spectrum Gallery, in a written statement. “Many of our visitors return year after year and start their holiday shopping at the festival since it offers not only variety and high quality but also uniqueness. Meeting directly with established as well as emerging artists from throughout Connecticut and beyond also provides the perfect opportunity to begin to collect fine art and high-end crafts or to add to a collection. And for our artists, their work is exposed to a host of people who may become long-term collectors.”
Admission to both the Autumn Arts Festival on the Madison Green and Gallery Group Show at Spectrum is free. In addition to the artist exhibits, the Green also includes live music with The Caraher Brothers, a jazz duo who have performed at many venues and festivals including the Discover Festival in Vermont, the Equifunk Festival in Pennsylvania, and International Festival of Arts and Ideas in New Haven. They have shared the stage with luminaries such as Billy Hart, Greg Abate, Charlie Hunter and George Porter, Jr.
Visitors to the Autumn Arts Festival receive a complimentary event program with map and booth locations of each artist, and information on upcoming Arts Center and Spectrum Gallery classes, workshops, and Gallery receptions.
