If a picture is worth a thousand words, there was plenty of chatter about Halloween in Darien on Saturday.

The 17th annual Halloween Window Painting Contest took place on downtown storefront windows, concentrated along the Boston Post Road.

"I think it's a great community event," said Joan Carlo of Darien. "It brings the kids together and it brings great spirit to the town."

Middle school students, individuals and small groups designed, planned and executed their artwork on a sunny Saturday. The event was sponsored by the Darien Youth Commission.

"We are doing a window painting and we're making the ghosts pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month," said Dillan Aysseh, 11, of Darien.

"When people drive by they'll see their town all decorated and beautiful," she said.
