A 33-year-old Pratt Island Road resident remains in critical condition Tuesday following a one-car accident on Nearwater Lane Friday night, according to police.

Just before 11 p.m., police responded to a report of a car accident involving a 2015 Audi A3. Police said speed was a factor in the accident, in which the man drove his car off the road, hit an embankment and went airborne.

The underside of the car clipped a stone wall before partially nose diving and slamming into a tree, the report stated. The Noroton Fire Department responded to the scene and spent 30 minutes extricating the man from the vehicle, according to the report.

The engine was dislodged from the vehicle and was found 15 feet from the scene of the accident, police said.

Police said the man sustained several life-threatening injuries and was transported to Stamford Hospital.

The accident is under investigation.
