DANBURY - A city police union fundraiser for the widow and three children of the late Sgt. Drew Carlson collected $30,000.

“Strikes for the Carlsons bowling fundraiser was a huge success - it far exceeded our expectations,” Sgt. Matthew Casazza said.

The Nov. 4 event, at Brookfield Lanes drew 175 people, Casazza said.

The plan was to raise enough money through ticket sales, event sponsorship, donations and a raffle to ease the burden on the grieving family, Casazza said.

Carlson, a decorated veteran who achieved his life goal of making sergeant in 2016, committed suicide in a Southbury hotel room.

The city buried the 38-year-old sergeant after a funeral Mass and solemn ceremony on Sept. 8.
