Temperatures are expected to soar into the mid- to upper-80s today in this mini "heat wave," according to the National Weather Service.

This uncharacteristic surge in April temperatures takes place under sunny skies across southwestern Connecticut and with a southwest wind between 5 and 13 mph.

Clouds will increase tonight, and the temperature will drop into the upper-50s. There will be a southwest wind between 6 and 10 mph.

Tomorrow will be sunny and warm, the NWS says, but not as hot as today. The daytime high temperature will be in the upper-70s. It will be partly cloudy overnight, with a low temperature in the mid-40s.

Wednesday should be mostly sunny, with a high temperature in the low-60s. Nighttime will be partly cloudy, with a low temperature in the mid-40s.

The outlook for Thursday, the weather service says, is mostly sunny, with a high temperature near 65.
