After a weekend respite from the deluge unleashed across southwestern Connecticut by Tropical Storm Andrea, more heavy rain -- and possible flooding -- is on tap for the region today.

The National Weather has issued a "flood watch" from noon today through tomorrow morning, noting that an expected 1.5 to 2 inches late today and early tomorrow, coupled with the lingering impact of Friday's record rainfall of about 4 inches, could overwhelm street drainage systems and trigger stream and river flooding.

Rain is expected to start falling this afternoon, with heavy rain and possible thunderstorms later. The daytime high temperature will rise to about 70 degrees, with a southeast wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of daytime precipitation is 90 percent, the NWS says.

Rain and possible thunderstorms continue through the night, as the temperature dips to a low of about 60 degrees. Heavy rain is possible, with an east wind 8 to 11 mph, becoming south after midnight and gusting as high as 23 mph.

Tomorrow morning, precipitation is likely before noon, with more possible into afternoon and evening. The daytime high temperature will rise to the mid-70s, with a southwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of daytime precipitation is 60 percent.

Tomorrow night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers before 10 p.m., with a low temperature about 60 degrees.

On Wednesday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Otherwise, skies will be mostly sunny, with a high temperature about 80 degrees. By nighttime, there remains a 20 percent chance of showers as the temperature dips to a low of about 60 degrees.

Thursday should bring mostly cloudy skies and a 30 percent chance of showers, with a daytime high temperature of about 70 degrees. The overnight low temperature will be in the upper-50s.

The outlook for Friday, according to the weather service, is mostly sunny and temperatures in the 70s.
