Atria Darien's Gratia Gillespie Art Gallery will open a new art exhibit, featuring the work of Nobuko Miki, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.
The exhibit of paintings, "Nobu," will be on display through December.
Nobu originally studied painting with 76- and 80-year-old folk artists in Tennessee and Indiana. She went on to establish Modern Folk Art, her blend of folk-art charm mixed with modern bright colors.
Nobu has painted Darien landscapes and events since 2003 and many of her paintings are in public and private collections. She has auctioned off many of her pieces to raise money for local charities, and has been commissioned to paint house and dog portraits throughout the country. She has also created the front cover of the Darien Park and Recreation's brochure since 2008.
Her show at Atria Darien will feature paintings of Darien, dogs and her new Tuscany series.
Her ornaments, mugs and holiday cards depicting scenes of Darien will be available for purchase at the reception.
