On Christmas Eve, a motor vehicle accident knocked out power to 600 Darien homes.

At approximately 4:56 p.m., a 2008 Toyota SUV operated by Russell Pinto, 45, of Stamford was traveling eastbound on the Post Road in the area of the Darien YMCA, according to police. The vehicle traveled onto the eastbound shoulder and struck a utility pole causing it to snap and block the two eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of the Post Road, according to police.

Power, phone and cable lines were all affected, according to police. Post 53 EMS transported Pinto to Stamford Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The accident is under investigation.

Power was restored at about 5 p.m. Christmas Day.
