Debbie Farber, a retired Amity director of pupil services, was hired as an interim director of special education to fill the space left following the resignation of Liz Wesolowski, former assistant director of special education in secondary education.

The Board of Education unanimously approved the hire at its Tuesday, Jan. 28, meeting.

"I feel that we were fortunate to receive a letter from her expressing interest in assisting Darien in this particular time," interim Superintendent Lynne Pierson said.

Farber serves as an adjunct professor and interim director of the special education graduate program at Fairfield University, where she has worked since September 2011.

Prior to that, Farber was the interim director of pupil personnel services for Norwalk Public Schools from April 2010 to September 2010.

Farber was the director of pupil services in the Amity Regional School District 5 for 29 years from 1979 to 2008.
