The 2012 Darien grand list, released on Monday, Feb. 4, is $8.9 billion, or a $34.5 million increase over the 2011, prior to actions from the Board of Assesment Appeals.

The $36 million increase to the real estate values is a result of residential and commercial improvements throughout the town, according to the grand list. The town inspected 430 building improvements.

Motor vehicle assesment reflected a $4.7 million reduction, which is due to the fact that there were 61 fewer vehicles registered in 2012 than there were in 2011.

The decrease in registered vehicles, according to the list, is in part a result of the increased sales that happened between one and two years ago following the expiration of the cash for clunkers program. The reduction is similar in other areas, according to the report.
