Two Darien residents were recently contacted via phone by people claiming to be employees of McGraw Hill. The caller ID reads "McGraw Hill" and the phone number is 212-438-7895.

The caller tells the resident that his/her home computer has been compromised and is spreading a virus throughout the neighborhood, police said. The caller then asks the resident for sensitive home computer network information so he can fix the problem remotely.

Darien Police said the caller may be using the information for identity theft.

The phone number has been "spoofed," police said, in order to mask the caller's true phone number.

The McGraw Hill Corporate Security Division is aware of the incidents.

The police urge residents not to disclose any information over the phone. Residents are also urged to file a complaint with the FCC at http://www.fcc.gov/complaints
