While Linda McMahon won the Republican Senate primary Tuesday, she lost in Darien, where the majority of the vote went to former U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays. According to the unofficial numbers, Shays received 849 votes to McMahon's 620.
Democrat Chris Murphy defeated former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz for the Democratic nomination, 299 to 76 in Darien.
With 72 percent of precincts reporting shortly before 10 p.m., McMahon held an overwhelming 76 percent of the vote, compared to 24 percent for Shays. The Democratic vote was a tad closer, with Murphy holding an advantage of 66 percent to 34 percent over Bysiewicz.
