National Veterans Services Fund worker also volunteered with local VFW

Cynthia Tanner, 52, 73 Stanton Road, who was accused of embezzling more than $186,000 from the National Veterans Services Fund in 2013, was also found to have volunteered as a bookkeeper for the Darien chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars, according to police.
According to police, Tanner volunteered as the "bookkeeper" for the VFW, 209 Noroton Ave., for several years. Police said Wednesday that they discovered irregularities in the VFW's financial statements as well.
The investigation is ongoing and further information regarding monetary losses will be released pending additional arrests.
Police estimate that Tanner, who started work at the NVSF in 2008, is accused of embezzling more than $830,000 from the non-profit organization.

Tanner was arrested Monday on charges of first-degree larceny for the 2013 financial fraud.
She is being held on a $500,000.00 bond.
