Three Norwalk women were charged on May 11 with fifth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny for attempting to steal $729 in groceries from Stop & Shop at 25 Old Kings Highway South, according to Darien Police Detective Mark Cappelli.

Dalycia Crawford-Jean, 21, Kaera Crawford-Jean, 22, and Samantha Lynn Crucitti, 23, were released on $250 bond and were scheduled to have appeared in state Superior Court in Stamford on May 21.

Police responded to a report at 9:26 p.m. on May 11 about a shoplifting in progress and met the manager and other employees who had detained the women, Cappelli said.

The manager said employees had watched Dalycia Crawford Jean and Kaera Crawford Jean collecting a large amount of groceries and then walk out of the store with two carts full of merchandise, Cappelli said.

The three suspects initially denied wrongdoing, and Kaera Crawford-Jean told police she had tried to pay for the food using a Stop & Shop online application, but it didn't work, Cappelli said. Crucitti then admitted to police she had been acting as a lookout outside the store for the other two women, who intended to steal items, Cappelli said.

Kaera and Dalycia Crawford-Jean then admitted that the three of them had agreed to steal from the store, Cappelli said.
