Recount underway for positions eyed by Newton, Keeley

BRIDGEPORT — Ex-state legislator Ernie Newton appears to be returning to his political roots.
Newtown came in second in a four-way race for a pair of council seats on Bridgeport East Side during Tuesday’s primary election. However, the results were close enough that there will be a recounts.
Meanwhile, in the city’s North End, another former legislator is involved in an additional recount.
Former state representative Bob Keeley and incumbent candidate Jeanette Herron are vying for a city council position.
The primary votes are currently being recounted since initial results indicated a tie between the two. Keeley severed as a state representative for nearly two decades. Herron is current city council member. She serves the 133rd district.
