STAMFORD — An increasingly popular fishing tournament returns to the city this Saturday to benefit the families of wounded soldiers.

More than 200 fishermen, including disabled veterans and their families, plan to participate in the fifth annual Hooks for Heroes Fishing Tournament at the Halloween Yacht Club, 10 Seaview Ave.

Sponsorship funds, donations and entry fees will support the Stamford chapter of Disabled American Veterans’ Operation Gift Card project, which benefits patients and their families at Walter Reed National Military Medical Hospital.

Since the first tournament was held in 2012, more than $38,000 have been raised.

This year’s event, which is sponsored by Patriot Bank, has two different fishing categories: largest bluefish and largest bass, both by weight.

The event will also feature live music, raffles and a cook-out. The cast-off is scheduled for 6 a.m. and the post-tournament awards begin at 1 p.m.
