DARIEN — Lights, cameras, santa!

The annual Tree Lighting, sponsored by Darien Sport Shop, with help from Noroton Fire Department, took place Sunday evening in the back lot just east of Leroy Avenue.

As always, the popular happening culminated in a special visit from Santa Claus (or the man in red some might call his Number One helper).

This particular red-suited man, a.k.a. Joe Warren of Darien, has shown up to this event for 39 years straight, along with attending many others throughout the region each year.

“He doesn’t take a single penny,” explained his daughter, Abby Shiner, hoping to share the truth of this spirited volunteer Santa.

“This year alone he has over 40 engagements in the next three weeks and he doesn’t take a penny,” she said. “He just asks for donations to the Noroton Fire Department.”
