DARIEN — A 24-year-old Norwalk woman was charged with drunk driving after speeding through a construction zone, police said.
On Oct. 20 around 2:45 a.m., a Darien patrol officer spotted Stephanie Canales, of Silvermine Avenue, speeding eastbound down the Post Road near the intersection of Old Kings Highway South. The area was under construction at the time and had traffic control signs and personnel in the area. Canales sped through the area at 45 miles per hour and crossed over the line into the closed portion of the road near construction equipment and personnel.
The officer pulled the Norwalk woman over and smelled alcohol upon speaking with her. She failed a field sobriety test and was charged with driving under the influence.
Canales was transported to police headquarters for booking. While there, she submitted to a Breathalyzer test that showed her blood alcohol content to be .148 at 3:20 a.m. A second test at 3:41 a.m. showed her BAC to be .128, more than the legal limit of .08.
Canales posted a $200 bond and was released around 3:45 a.m. Her license was suspended for 24 hours and she was given a court date of Oct. 30.
