A Greenleaf Avenue couple reported the theft of $40,000 in jewelry from their home Sept. 19, according to Darien Police Sgt. Jeremiah Marron.

The couple said they returned home from running an errand at 4 p.m. that Saturday afternoon and saw two young men running from their property toward Christie Hill Road, Marron said.

A police canvas of the area did not find any suspects, Marron said.

Everything appeared as normal until the female owner of the jewelry went to the bedroom and noticed a chair pulled out from behind a desk that hid a drawer where her jewelry was kept, Marron said.

The baubles stolen included an unspecified number of rings, earrings, pendants, and necklaces, Marron said. The victim estimated she had last opened the drawer the previous Friday to get a ring, Marron said.
