Erwin Martinez, 19, of 53 Matthews St., Stamford, was arrested on Aug. 20 on charges of driving under the influence under the age of 21, operating with a suspended license and failure to drive right.
At 5:30 a.m., Darien police said, officers were dispatched to Hollow Tree Ridge Road on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, police saw that a 2010 Nissan Altima had crashed into a utility pole, according to the report. The impact did enough damage that the pole needed to be replaced, police said.
While police were talking to Martinez, they smelled alcohol on his breath, according to the report. Police said he told officers that he drank three to four beers several hours prior to the accident.
He was administered a field sobriety test, which he failed, said police, who added that Martinez, who sustained minor injuries, admitted that he had a suspended license.
He was released on $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 30.
