Albertht Saravia, 21, of 7 Spruce St., Stamford, was arrested Dec. 24 on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, passing on the right and driving without a license.

Darien police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Post and Brookside roads where a red 2002 Ford Explorer had collided with a BMW station wagon.

A witness said Saravia approached the intersection at a high rate of speed and when he attempted to pass the BMW on the right, his car collided with it, according to police. Saravia then hit a tree on the side of the road, police said.

Saravia told police that he didn't know how fast he was driving, according to the report. Police reported that Saravia smelled of alcohol and had glassy and bloodshot eyes. When asked, Saravia tsaid he drank vodka after he left work, police said.

He was administered field sobriety tests, which he failed, according to the report.

One of the passengers of the car reported minor injuries, but refused transport to the hospital, according to police.

Both cars were heavily damaged and were towed.

Saravia posted $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 3.
