Danbury, Soph., 103 pounds
The Hatter sophomore went 33-10, won the Danbury Holiday Tournament, collected his first FCIAC title and was third in the LL tournament.

Pomperaug, Fresh., 112 pounds
The Pomperaug freshman was the runner-up in the SWC final in a close 2-1 loss to Anthony Amorando of New Milford. A week later he claimed third in the Class L tournament with a 5-0 decision over Amorando. A third place finish in the State Open capped a solid freshman season.
Charlie Costanzo
Danbury, Soph., 119 pounds
Before the season, Costanzo set a personal goal of winning three titles. The Hatter did not disappoint. Along with a 41-7 record, he claimed the FCIAC, the Class L and the State Open titles. Costanzo also came within one point of a New England title as he lost a 6-5 decision in the final.
Alex Blank
Ridgefield, Senior, 125 pounds
Blank, a 2006 State Open champion, came within one point of his second title in three years. After winning the FCIAC and LL titles, Blank came up just short and lost the Open title to Nick Marouski of Windham 2-1.
John Gouveia
Newtown, Junior, 125 pounds
Gouveia reached the 100 career victory milestone and then ran his season record to 34-0 with a championship in the SWC tournament. An illness ended his season early in the Class L tournament but could not erase a great season in one of the state's toughest weight classes.
Mike Frick
New Fairfield, Junior, 130 pounds
Frick brought an individual renaissance to the legendary New Fairfield program. The junior collected an SWC title and a Class M championship before coming up just short in the State Open final.
John Smith
Danbury, Sophomore, 135 pounds
Smith posted a 36-8 record against some of the best competition in New England. The sophomore also won the Danbury Holiday tournament and the FCIAC title before finishing third in the Class LL tournament.
Tucker Schaefer
Danbury, Junior, 140 pounds
Schaefer might be remembered best for his thrilling final match pin that secured the Hatters victory over nemesis Mt. Anthony in December. However, the junior also won the Danbury Holiday Tournament, FCIAC and Class LL titles. A fourth-place finish at the Open sets up high expectations for 2009.
Jon Goncalves
Danbury, Senior, 145 pounds
The Hatter captain finished his career with a 100-36 record and a 25-8 record in his last season. An injury prevented another FCIAC championship but could not stop a third-place finish in the Class L tournament.
Dean Smith
Danbury, Senior, 152 pounds
Smith was undefeated in the regular season and in the state of Connecticut. The Hatter captain went 28-1 and collected a Danbury Holiday Tournament title, his third FCIAC championship, a Class LL championship and a State Open title. During the season, Smith suffered a knee injury, a concussion and three broken fingers and still was able to regularly beat the best, including fellow all-area selections Andrew Ford and Michael Bellagamba.
Andrew Ford
Bethel, Sophomore, 152 pounds
Ford was featured before the season began and did not disappoint when it ended. The Bethel sophomore won the SWC tournament, won the Class M title, and finished second to Smith at the Open in a 1-0 final classic. He is clearly the favorite for an Open championship in 2009.
Michael Bellagamba
New Milford, Senior, 152 pounds
If not for Smith and Ford, Bellagamba might very well have claimed multiple titles. The New Milford tournament winner was second in the Danbury Tournament to Smith, second in the SWC tournament to Ford, claimed the Class L title, and finished third in the Open behind both Smith and Ford.
Nick Wood
Danbury, Senior, 160 pounds
Wood finished his career with a 83-25 record and 26-13 senior season. He was third in the FCIAC and fifth in Class LL.
Cody Griswold
New Milford, Senior, 171 pounds
Griswold used his final season to dominate the SWC regular season and tournament. The Green Wave grappler then took the Class L championship before finishing second in the Open to Tim Vollaro of Somers in a 7-6 decision.
Joe LaDuca
Danbury, Senior, 215 pounds
LaDuca looked dominant through the season and finished with a 22-6 record. An injury prevented his entry into the FCIAC tournament but the senior still took second in the Class LL before running out of gas in the Open. Overall, LaDuca finished his career with an 82-28 record.
Humphrey Swift
Danbury, Junior, 285 pounds
The junior had a breakout year with a 40-6 regular-season record and his first FCIAC title. The heavyweight then took the Class LL championship before a fifth-place finish at the Open ended a great run.
