A burglar broke into Darien Carpet, 39 Tokeneke Road, over Memorial Day weekend and stole $100 in cash, according to police.
Officers were dispatched to the store at 8:30 a.m. May 27 after the owner called police to report that the window to the right of the entrance door had been tampered with, police said.
The complainant told police that the window previously had been broken and secured with Plexiglas, according to the report. Police said the burglar apparently removed the Plexiglas and cut a hole in the wall directly behind it. The complainant said he also found an unlocked door in the rear of the store and he was not sure whether the alarm was enabled when he left the building at 1:30 p.m. May 24, according to police.
The case is under investigation.
