Cassidy picks up hat trick as Darien girls take down Glastonbury

The Darien girls hockey team played score the only two goals of the third period to snap a tie with Glastonbury and come away with a 5-3 victory on Wednesday at the Darien Ice Rink, as Georgia Cassidy notched the hat trick and the game-winning goal.

Cassidy scored in first period two minutes into the game for the 1-0 lead, but Glastonbury pulled even five minutes later on a goal by Monica Darby.

Cassidy scored again with assists from Julia Arrix and Katie Zaro, but Glastonbury knotted the game at 2-2 on a goal by Taylor Hallisey with a minute and a half left in the opening period.

Two minutes into the second period, Marissa Baker scored with assists from Amanda Sload and Sage Thacher. Leyna DiMarco scored for Glastonbury with help from Maggie Chernovetz to again draw even at 3-3.

Cassidy completed her hat trick in the third with an assist from Baker. Sage Thacher ended the game an empty netter with two seconds remaining.

Darien netminder Shannon Hall made seven saves for Darien, and Glastonbury's Annie Henderson made 32.

For the Blue Wave, the win improved their record to 9-2-1 (6-1 FCIAC).
