The Cherry Lawn Community Gardens on Brookside Drive in Darien are blooming with activity as local gardeners who obtained a plot recently readied the ground for the planting season.

The town supplied topsoil and Larry Brown of Brown & Co. emptied several loads of wood chips for gardeners' paths.

From modest beginnings in 1975, of bare plots in open space, the community gardens each year attract enthusiasts of all ages. The property has 61 garden plots, two beehives, a well-equipped tool shed and water access from multiple points.
