High-quality works by some of the region's finest artists are on view through Feb. 25 during "Expressions 2012," a juried all-media exhibition at the Rowayton Arts Center, 145 Rowayton Ave. Winter hours for the RAC Gallery are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and admission is free. Consequences of the Civil War

The Rowayton Historical Society presents the first of a series of Civil War Lectures, "The Greatest Crisis in U.S. History: The Causes, Course, and Consequences of the Civil War," which will be given by professor Steven Berizzi of Norwalk Community College on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Rowayton United Methodist Church, 5 Pennoyer St. Admission is $5, no charge for RHS members.

Lindberg's work at gallery

On Feb. 18, Brendan's Gallery will be hosting an artist wine-and-cheese reception from 6 to 8 p.m. for Pamela Lindberg's new exhibition, "Layered Photographs." After graduating from Syracuse University, Lindberg had several jobs in New York City as a textile designer. She has made art in Fairfield County for more than 27 years and is a member of the art centers in Darien and Rowayton and the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk. She also loves to take photographs and has her studio at the Wilson Avenue Loft Artists in Norwalk.

RHS winter hours

This winter, the Rowayton Historical Society will be opening the Pinkney House Museum the third Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. and Tuesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. This month, the museum will be open on Feb. 19.

Valentine's Day cards for kids

Come to the Rowayton Library on Monday at 3:30 p.m. and make a last-minute Valentine's Day card. All materials are provided and snacks will be served.

Great Decisions Discussion Group

The Rowayton Library is hosting a Great Decisions Discussion Group that meets every other Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The next meeting is Wednesday and the topic is Mexico. This program is free and open to the public. The sessions are led by Erik Rambusch, adjunct professor of business and emergency management at Norwalk Community College. Future discussion dates are Feb. 29, March 14 and 28, and April 11 and 25. For information and program materials, call 203-838-5038.

`Treasure Buddies'

The Rowayton Library will be showing the movie "Treasure Buddies" on Feb. 17 at 3:30 p.m. This movie is rated G. Popcorn will be served. This program is free and open to the public.
