Edwin Garate, 36, of 14 Ledge Road, Darien, was arrested Aug. 6 on charges of driving while intoxicated, failure to obey a traffic signal and operating without a license.

A Darien officer on patrol near Interstate 95's northbound ramp at exit 10 observed a blue Plymouth Voyager travel through a red signal at the end of the ramp at about 2 a.m., according to the report. Police said the officer stopped Garate on Noroton Avenue just before Ledge Road and upon approaching the driver, he noticed Garate's breath smelled like alcohol.

The driver was administered field sobriety tests, which he failed, the report stated. He was taken into custody and agreed to take two Breathalyzer tests. He scored .1287 on the first one and .1251 on the second one, according to police. The legal limit is .08.

Garate posted $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 19.
