DARIEN — Police are investigating a counterfeit bill used to pay for a meal at Bertucci’s on the Post Road.
On Jan. 28 around 10 p.m., police responded to Bertucci’s Italian Restaurant after the manager reported they received a $50 bill earlier in the night from a patron. Around 6:45 p.m., a man with two young children used the counterfeit bill to pay for his $27 meal. The diner was described as a white man with blond hair, around six feet tall with a slim build and in his mid-thirties. The children he was with were described as being under 10 years old.
Police said the bill did not have the appropriate security features and was clearly printed on a counterfeit paper. It is unclear if the patron knew the bill was counterfeit when he paid.
Police have no suspect but are continuing to investigate the incident. The counterfeit bill was turned over to the Secret Service.
