The Cypress Ensemble will take the stage at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Talmadge Hill Community Church in Darien to perform classical music in a program to benefit KEYS -- Kids Empowered by Your Support Inc.
The ensemble is composed of pianist Gina Wilson, cellist Gunnar Sahlin and violinist Corinne Metter, all of whom are members of the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra. In addition to their classical selections, they will include a couple of surprises in this intimate setting.
A donation of $25 per person is requested. The concert will benfit the programs of KEYS, a nonprofit that provides free private and group music lessons to Bridgeport children. KEYS seeks to make a meaningful difference in the lives of underserved children in Bridgeport through music, empowering its students by teaching children to read music, play instruments, make music in ensemble, practice and perform, and by providing one-to-one mentorship from adults and college-bound high school students. KEYS students gain life-changing skills including focus, goal setting, poise and preparedness, since the study and performance of music requires discipline, commitment and practice.
"It's thrilling to watch the students gain self-esteem and self-confidence as they learn their instruments," said Rob Silvan of KEYS.
The church is located at the corner of Hollow Tree Ridge and Talmadge Hill roads.
