The Darien High School Orchestra, under the direction of Jane Minnis, was awarded gold for its performance at the Heritage Music Performance Festival in Washington March 28 to 30.

The orchestra performed Palladio by Karl Jenkins and Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber.

Alexander Trevino, from Old Dominion University, provided the students a clinic and feedback immediately following their performance.

The other judges included M. Scott McBride, from Moorhead State University, and John Casagrande, from George Mason University.

Other groups participating in the festival, which took place at the Hylton Performing Arts Center Auditorium at George Mason University, were from Florida, North Carolina, New York, Illinois and Maryland.

In addition to their performance, the students toured the monuments, visited the Capitol, National Air and Space Museum and the White House.
