Darien Babe Ruth team picks up lopsided win over Weston

Led by Owen Beringer's bat, the Darien Giovannis 14 and 15-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team defeated Weston Gold 12-4 on Saturday.

Beringer had three hits, including a monstrous two-run home run over the left field fence. Darien pitchers Matt Pettit and Jake Fredo each allowed only two runs over three innings and were supported by a defense that did not commit an error.

Nick Murphy was a defensive standout, as the Darien catcher threw a runner out at third base and threw to the pitcher covering home plate to prevent Weston from scoring. Murphy also added two hits.
