The Darien Public Library plans a series of programs -- from digital photo self-portraits to a "virtual" art show -- for teens during August

Digital self-portrait photography will be the topic of workshop Aug. 7 at the library.

The 11 a.m. full-day workshop will be led by photographer Kristine Larsen of New York City and is designed to acquaint teens with digital cameras. Participants will compile a portfolio of the day's images. To register, contact Teen Librarian Erica Gauquier at 203-669-5225 or email egauquier@darienlibrary.org.

A Virtual Teen Art Show is planned by the Darien Public Library in partnership with the Portland Public Library, via Tumblr. Teens can submit their artwork to share with others from around New England. All mediums are welcome, including painting, sculpture, photography, charcoal and comic strips. Submissions should be brought to the library's Teen Lounge where it will be photographed for the show. Follow either DLTeenTumblr or PPLTeensTumblr to see the latest artwork posted. For details, contact egauquier@darienlibrary.org or call 203-669-5225,

The Teen Summer Reading Finale Party and Darien Idol will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 15. The celebration wraps up the summer reading program, with a chance to win a $50 gift card by performing on the stage in the library's community room. Pizza and other snacks will be served. There also will be a raffle for an iPad, and those teens who review eight books by Aug. 8 will get two tickets for the raffle.
