Darien/New Canaan American Legion baseball team to hold tryouts in late January

The Darien/New Canaan American Legion baseball program is having open tryouts for Darien and New Canaan residents only for the 2013 Junior Legion and Senior Legion teams at IST Baseball Headquarters at 25 Van Zant in Norwalk.

The Junior Legion tryouts will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 5-6:30 p.m. The Junior Legion program is a 17-year-old and under league open to players born on or after Jan. 1, 1996.

The Senior Legion team tryouts will be on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 6:30-8 p.m. The Senior Legion program is a 19-year-old and under league open to players born on or after Jan. 1, 1994.

Players must register via email to istkatz22@yahoo.com to reserve a spot at the tryout. A tryout fee of $20 per player will apply. Cash or a check made payable to I.S.T. will be accepted.

The Darien/New Canaan American Legion Baseball are wood bat programs consisting of a 27-game schedule played in June and July followed by Regional/State tournaments if teams qualify. The American Legion program is a competitive league of local towns including Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, Greenwich and Trumbull.

The Senior Legion team has historically been comprised of varsity high school juniors and seniors and first year college baseball players. The Junior Legion has historically been comprised of varsity and junior varsity high school players.
