Roberto Zavaleta, 33, of 56 Fair St. in Norwalk was charged with driving under the influence and operating without a license on Sept. 3, according to a release.

At about 1:20 a.m., an officer on patrol said he observed a white Ford Explorer stopped at a stop sign on Old Kings Highway North.

The officer said that Zavaleta had fallen asleep at the wheel and was holding a partially full Corona bottle with his right hand and the steering wheel with his left. The vehicle was in drive with the engine running and there was a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle, according to police.

The officer was able to wake Zavaleta after numerous attempts and he subsequently failed his field sobriety tests, police said, adding that Zavaleta did not possess a driver's license. He posted a $250 bond and has a schedule court appearance for Sept. 13.
