Art Show at Town Hall

There will be a display of original paintings by the center's artists, ranging from oil, acrylics and watercolor, in Darien Town Hall's gallery at 2 Renshaw Road, from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30.

On Friday, Nov. 5, between 6 and 8 p.m. there will be a special reception to highlight these works of art and all attendees will have the chance to meet the artists.

Oil painting

Join artists every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon at the center for a fun oil painting course that focuses on the technical basics of painting: color, perspective; composition; and shadow.

The class stresses creativity and development of your own personal style in order to achieve a beautiful finished work of art. Bring your own photo or picture for inspiration.

Each class member receives individual attention and critique. Throughout the class, various periods of art and the artists who made them famous will be discussed.

The instructor is Althea Ericsson, who studied fine art at Fareleigh Dickinson University and attended New York School of Design, Parsons Institute and Yale University.

Ericsson also teaches watercolor on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. There she focuses on atmospheric perspective, mixabilty, gouache and graded wash. The classes are both drop in and cost $4 per session.

Acrylic painting

The center offers a weekly acrylics class every Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon. The course's focus is to improve students inherent skills and abilities while building confidence.

They study composition, paint mixing and technique. Students choose their own subject matter.

The instructor is Bill Kirsch, who studied at the Famous Artists Institute in Westport, the Silvermine Art Guild in New Canaan and privately with artist Sandra Bacher.

The center is located at 30 Edgerton St. Call 203-656-7455 for information or pick up a calendar of monthly events.
