DARIEN — Shake Shack will officially open its doors just after New Year’s Day.

Representatives from the “fast casual” burger chain announced Dec. 15 that the long-awaited Darien location will begin serving its signature burgers, fries and milk shakes Jan. 2, 2017 at 1340 Post Road.

The announcement came just days after the developer, Baywater Properties, announced construction had been completed Dec. 12.

“We are so excited to welcome Shake Shack to Darien,” said David Genovese, principal of Baywater Properties. “Given the number of young families in Darien, we believe that we need more family-friendly restaurants, and Danny Meyer’s Shake Shack is one of New York’s most beloved institutions.”

Shake Shack’s menu will include deserts specific to Darien, including Darien Cookie Dough — which will feature SoNo Baking Company ginger chocolate chip cookie dough and chocolate toffee — and Pie Oh My — a slice of SoNo Baking Company’s seasonal pie topped with vanilla custard. Five percent of all sales of Pie Oh My will be donated to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a nonprofit in Ashford, Conn., that helps children and their families suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses.

A selection of local craft beers will also be available on tap, including selections from Two Roads Brewing Company and Half Full Brewery, plus an exclusive ShackMeister Ale from Brooklyn Brewery. Additionally, a variety of wines will be available.

The opening comes after a back-and-forth over the summer between Baywater Properties and the Zoning Board of Appeals over the size of signage. The project was ultimately approved in June and construction commenced at the location of the former Chuck’s Steak House.

“The response of the community to our announcement that we were working to bring Shake Shack to Darien was more strongly positive than anything we have experienced in the past,” Genovese said.
