The Apaches of the Darien YMCA Guides and Princesses Nation will be collecting and transporting the most-needed goods to the hurricane-affected areas of Queens or Brooklyn on Sunday, Nov. 18.
Donations are needed and can be dropped off in the front parking lot of Hindley School in Darien between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday. Darien's first through fifth grade sons, daughters and dads of the Darien Nation will be there to help load the items and bring them down to various disaster centers in New York.
For those who cannot drop off donations on Sunday, items may be left at the brown shed at 11 Leeuwarden Lane in Darien. This drop-off location is open and already accepting items.
The items most needed are:
cleaning supplies and hardware, such as brooms, mops, flat shovels, cleaners, bleach
rubber gloves
masks
duct, packing or scotch tape
heavy-duty garbage bags
plastic storage bins
gas cans
candles
flashlights
lights/lanterns
batteries (AA and AAA)
diapers and wipes
toiletries, such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, sanitary items
first aid kits and hydrogen peroxide
blankets
Home Depot gift cards
Clothes and furniture will not be accepted.
