The Darien Prep Op team dominated the advanced division competition at the Halloween Flippin' Fright Fest meet in Wilton.
Marya Von Schmidt captured the All Around title and also won on bars with a score of 9.15. Sarah Petti scored 9.1 to place first on balance beam followed by Julia Murray in second. Ellie Lufkin was first on vault. Caroline Congdon scored a 9.5 to win the floor title, followed by Lufkin, with Lauren Fusek and Petti tied for third. Travel Team gymnast Samantha Gunn competed at Level 8, winning the All Around (35.35) and vault titles and taking second on beam, bars and floor.
At the Harvest Invitational in Trumbull, House Team Level 4 gymnast Meghan Sisk scored a 35.00 in the All Around. Teammate Lindsay Hall nailed her vault with a score of 9.2 followed by Maggie Russell with an 8.6. Level 5 gymnasts were led by Katie Weinberg's 9.0 on beam, Lydia Groves' 8.9 on floor and Laura Germishuys 8.7 on vault. Congdon, with a 35.00 All Around and a 9.0 on floor, led the Prep Op team. Von Schmidt, Murray and Kajsa Lundeen shone on bars scoring 9.050, 8.9 and 8.85, respectively. Emily Medwid and Lufkin soared on vaulting, earning 8.65 and 8.625. Petti scored 8.6 on both vault and floor. Travel Team gymnasts Christina Brandt and Gunn also competed, with Brandt hitting her floor routine for a 9.4 followed by Gunn with 8.9.
The Level 5 and Prep Op House Teams competed in the New England Invitational meet in Glastonbury on Dec. 1 and 2. Within each level, medals were awarded by age groups for each apparatus and all-around. In the Level 5 10-year-old group, moving up a level, Sisk won the vault title with a score of 8.65. In the 11-year-old group, Kerry McDermott placed fifth on vault and 10th on bars. Lily Fairleigh placed third on beam scoring 8.9 and seventh on floor in the 12-year--old age group. Groves led the 13-and-over age group, winning the floor title with a 9.55, and placed third on vault, fifth on beam and fourth All-Around. Germishuys placed fourth on beam and sixth on vault. Sophie Blue was eighth on both bars and beam.
The Prep Op team captured the second place team trophy for the Advanced division. Lufkin won the beam title with an impressive 9.225 and placed second All Around in the Junior age group. Lundeen took third All Around in the Senior group, as well as second on vault and third on bars with a 9.1. Congdon added to her floor title collection with a 9.1. Murray placed third on vault and Medwid was second on beam with an 8.925.
