The Darien YMCA gymnasts were swinging, soaring, shining stars at the 2016 Connecticut Southern Leagues Championship meet in Trumbull. The Level 3, 4 and 6 gymnasts brought home the team championships and seven gymnasts won individual All Around (AA) titles. Gymnasts competed by level and age group.

The first place Level 3 team was led by Anna Altier who captured the vault, bars and AA titles with 37.45 and placed second on floor and beam in the nine years (9s) age group. Ava Licata was first on floor, fourth on vault and second on bars and AA. Sydney Berk was the beam champ with 9.225, placed fifth on vault, third on floor and AA and tied Sophia Geffner for sixth on bars. Geffner was also sixth on vault and AA, fifth on beam and seventh on floor. Penelope Arredondo earned second on vault, sixth on floor and beam and fourth on bars and AA. Lindy Mueller was fourth on beam, fifth AA and third on bars and vault where she tied with Annelise Enters, who also took fifth on floor and seventh AA. Julia Holmes earned fifth on bars and seventh on vault and beam.

Topping the 10s group was Tanner Generoso, who soared to an impressive 9.85 for the vault title along with winning beam and AA and placing third on bars and fourth on floor. Abigail O’Brien was second on bars and AA and third on vault and beam. Alannah Morris took sixth on vault and fourth on bars.

Stephanie Carrillo was the champ on all events and AA in the 12s group, racking up 36.20 points. Amelia Kuhn took second on beam and third on vault. Meredith Marra swept third place in the 13 and up group.

In the 8s group, Katie Cutler placed second on bars, fourth on vault, seventh on floor and sixth AA. Ellie Davies swung to third on bars, took fifth on beam and floor and seventh AA. Sophie Root was the beam champ with 9.35 and placed fifth on vault. Elsa Del Bene earned fourth on bars, sixth on vault and floor and seventh on beam. Alexandra Kuras took second on beam while Katie Primmer earned her meet high score on vault.

Brianna Barrientos won the bars title in the 11s group with an outstanding 9.6, placed fifth on floor, ninth on vault and sixth AA. Carly Cambareri took eighth AA, sixth on vault and seventh on beam and floor where she tied teammate Isabella Woodring. Woodring was also fifth on beam. Ciara Bresnahan earned fifth on bars and vault and ninth on floor and AA. Theodora Tertiropoulos was eighth on vault and floor while Alexandra Decsi was eighth on beam.

The Level 4 team also took first place led by Olivia Perkins in the 11s group who was first on bars, floor and AA with 36.90, second on vault and fifth on beam. Sofia Iuteri was the beam champ with 9.2, placed third on bars and second on floor and AA. Sofia Imbrogno soared to the vault title with 9.5, took seventh on bars, sixth AA and tied Brooke Romano for eighth on beam and Grace Nash for ninth on floor. Romano also placed third on vault, tenth on bars, fifth on floor and seventh AA.

In the 9-10 group, Lauren Smith was fourth on vault and second on all other events and AA with 36.925. Iris West placed third on vault and floor, fifth on bars and fourth AA. Julia Decsi was third on beam and fifth AA. Anna Primmer was steady on beam for fourth place while Ali Kolman took fourth on bars.

Alison Enters was the bars champ for the 12s group swinging to 9.2, took second on floor and third on beam and AA. In the 13 and up group, Tetyana Banaryk was the vault champ and placed third on bars, floor and AA while Reggie Frias vaulted to third.

With just four gymnasts competing, the Level 5 team took third place. In the 10-11 group, Melina Cardini won both the floor and vault (9.3) titles and placed second on beam and AA. Megan Mitchell took second on bars and third on beam and AA while Audrey Ridder was third on vault and bars. Competing in the 12s group, Lucy Collins placed third on beam and second on all other events and AA with 36.75.

The Champion Level 6 team was paced by Dillan Aysseh who won the 12-13 group AA title with 36.50, placed second on vault, bars and floor and fourth on beam. Lizzie Canelli was fourth on bars, second on beam and AA and third on floor where she tied with Lindsay Hall. Hall was also sixth on vault and fifth on beam. Christina Pizzani won the vault title with 9.45 and placed sixth on all other events and AA.

In the 10-11 group, Sommer Schmidt was the vault champ and placed third on beam. Lily Fairleigh won the bars title with 9.25 in the 14 up group and was second on all other events and AA.

The three Darien Level 7 gymnasts combined to take second place in the team competition. Lana Schmidt flipped to the floor title and took second on bars, beam and AA. Allie Trotman was the champ on vault and bars with 9.6 and 9.45 and placed second on floor. Tess Keating earned third on bars, beam and AA.

Gianna Cardini may have been the sole Darien competitor at Level 8 but she took home her share of titles, winning vault, floor and AA as well as taking second on beam and third on bars. As the only Level 9 competitor, Kelsey Fedorko swept the titles and impressed the crowd with routines earning 9.25 on vault and 9.4 on floor.
