There may not have been any real snow on the ground in December but Darien YMCA Gymnasts brought home enough snowflake-shaped medals from the Wilton YMCA Snowflake Invitational to make their own blizzard. The YMCA gym also has a snowy coating of team championship banners with 6 levels taking first place. Fifteen gymnasts won All Around (AA) titles for their age group and level.

The snowflake collection started with the team champion Level 3s. In the 6-8 age group, Sophie Root won the beam and floor titles, placed third AA and tied with Elsa Del Bene for fifth on vault. Del Bene was also seventh on floor. Emily McKee was third on vault and beam, second on floor and sixth AA. Katie Primmer took seventh on bars.

Anna Altier led the 9s group, winning the vault and AA titles with 36.90 and placing second on bars, floor and beam where she tied with Ava Licata. Licata also secured first on bars and floor where she scored 9.75, took second AA and tied Sydney Berk for second on vault. Berk was the beam champ, placed third on floor and AA and fourth on bars. Penelope Arredondo earned third on vault, bars and beam and fourth on floor and AA. Julia Holmes scored fourth on vault while Sophia Geffner earned her meet high score on floor.

In the 10s group, Abigail O’Brien captured the titles on bars, beam and AA with 36.80, placed third on vault and tied Tanner Generoso for second on floor. Generoso also took second on beam and AA, fourth on bars and was part of a four-way tie for second on vault with Julia McKee and Alannah Morris. McKee also earned fifth on bars and beam and third on floor and AA. Morris also placed eighth on bars and ninth on beam.  Maya Mansourov was third on bars and beam, ninth on vault and seventh AA. Bowen Burns took fifth on vault, sixth on floor and ninth on bars.

Kira McCreesh was the vault champ with 9.6 in the 11s group, while also taking fifth on bars, sixth AA, seventh on floor and ninth on beam. Alexandra Decsi placed seventh AA, eighth on floor, ninth on bars and tied Kyle Latimer for fourth on vault. Latimer was also sixth on floor, seventh on bars, ninth on beam and eighth AA. Isabella Woodring earned sixth on bars, ninth on beam and tenth on vault. Ciara Bresnahan placed eighth on beam and tenth on floor. Brianna Barrientos was sixth on beam while Carly Cambareri earned her meet high score on floor. In the 12 and up age group, Stephanie Carrillo placed second on beam and floor and third on vault and AA while Meredith Marra was second on both vault and bars.

The flurries continued as the Level 4s secured the team championship. Lauren Smith stormed to the titles on vault, beam, AA and floor where she scored an impressive 9.8 in the 8-9 group. Alexia Buchesky took fourth on vault, third on floor and second on bars, beam and AA. Ali Kolman was the bars champ with 9.2 and placed third on vault, beam and AA. Julia Decsi earned second on vault, third on bars and fourth on beam and AA.  Anna Primmer was the beam and AA champ in the 10s group and placed second on bars and third on vault and floor.

In the 11s, Olivia Perkins soared to first on floor with a 9.7 and placed fourth on vault, bars and beam and second AA. Brooke Romano took second on vault and beam, sixth on floor, seventh on bars and third AA. Sofia Iuteri was the beam champ with 9.25 and placed second on bars, sixth AA, seventh on vault and eleventh on floor. Grace Nash earned third on beam, sixth on vault and ninth on bars. Maggie Russell was the vault champ in the 12s, placed third on floor and fourth on beam and AA. In the 13 and up group, Tetyana Banaryk was the vault champ, took second on beam and floor and third AA. Reggie Frias was third on bars and beam.

The Level 5s won the team championship by a margin of nearly eight points and shoveled up a blizzard of medals, led by Nadia Borja in the 9-10s group where she was second on vault and took the bars, beam, floor and AA titles with huge scores of 9.35, 9.4, 9.9 and 37.35. Sofia DeStefano won vault,  placed third on bars and second on beam and AA. Abigail Nevin was second on bars, third on beam and AA and tied for third on vault with Melina Cardini. Cardini was also third on floor. Anna Moss earned second on floor with 9.7.

Isabella DeStefano was the AA champ in the 11s with 36.55 AA, placed third on vault, first on beam, and floor and tied for first on bars with Gabriela Pye. Gabriela was also second on vault, fourth on beam and floor and third AA.  Caterina Pye was the vault champ as well as fourth on bars and second on beam, floor and AA. Saskia Chermayeff earned third on beam and floor and fifth on bars and AA. Nima Rahbar took third on bars and fifth on vault and floor. Megan Mitchell was fourth on vault where Audrey Ridder earned her meet high score.

Emma Neaderland was the 12s AA champ, flipping to first on floor with 9.7, and placing second on bars and third on vault. Lucy Collins earned first on beam, third on bars and second on vault and AA. In the 13 and up group, Kerry McDermott captured the titles on vault, beam and AA, placed third on bars and second on floor.

The snowstorm continued with the Level 6s winning the team title. Kate Wolters topped the podium in the 10-11 group for beam, vault and AA with 36.80 AA and placed second on bars and floor.  Tori Ware won the bars title with 9.45, placed third on beam and floor and second on vault and AA. Paige Domenici took second on vault. In the 12s, Holly McGoldrick captured the vault, bars and AA titles with 36.45 and placed third on floor. Dillan Aysseh was second on vault and third on bars, beam and AA. Lindsay Hall secured third on vault and second on beam while Christina Pizzani was second on floor. Lily Fairleigh swung to second on bars in the 13 and up group.

Kellie Arevalo led the Level 7 team champs, taking the vault, beam and floor titles in the Senior age group with 36.25 AA and placing second on bars and floor. Jane Ogden was champ on bars and placed third on all other events. In the Junior group, Allie Trotman placed third on vault, bars and AA and second on beam. Lana Schmidt earned her meet high score on floor while Dorothy Browning’s top score came on vault.

In the Level 8 Junior group, Nikki Carlo was the snow queen, taking first on bars, beam, floor and AA with 35.5. Gianna Cardini was the vault champ and placed third on bars, floor and AA.   The Level 9s brought home the last team title. Annsley Martin shone as the sole competitor in the Junior group peaking with a 9.1 on floor.  In the Senior group, Sam Aparicio and Jessica Freiheit took turns on the top of the podium, starting with a tie for the vault title, then Freiheit won on bars, beam and AA while Aparicio won floor with 9.2.   Adnerys DeJesus was the sole Level 10 gymnast, scoring an impressive 9.4 on floor and  35.70 AA.
