The Darien YMCA gymnastics team honored their former teammate by focusing on having fun and sweeping the team titles at the annual Emily Fedorko Challenge.

Coach Nicole Kapitan began each of the meet sessions by reading an inspiring tribute to the memory of Emily Fedorko, who lost her life too early in a boating accident. Before the final session, Emily’s mother, Pam Fedorko addressed the gymnasts and families, thanking them for supporting the Emily Fedorko Foundation and encouraging the gymnasts to enjoy themselves and have fun, as Emily would have done.

The Level 9 and 10 gymnasts put on an impressive performance a day after many of them competed in the New England High School Open Championships.

The Level 9s were led by Kelsey Fedorko, who captured the All-Around (AA) title along with winning bars, floor and beam with 9.6 and tying teammate Jessica Freiheit for second on vault. High school senior Freiheit, competing in her last home meet, also placed second on beam and third AA. Nikki Carlo was third on vault, bars and floor and second on beam and AA. Gianna Cardini was the vault champ with 9.2, second on bars and third on beam.

Again, the sole Level 10 competitor, Adnerys De Jesus scored an impressive 38.50 AA, including 9.7 on vault and 9.75 on beam.

The Level 7 team won the team title by more than six points. Sofia DeStefano was the champ on vault, beam, floor and AA and placed second on bars in the 10-11 age group.

In the 14-and-up group. Lana Schmidt took third on vault, beam and floor and second AA. Sofia Fea soared to the vault title with 9.4 and was fifth on floor and AA.

It was a tangle of ties among teammates in the 12-13 group. Tori Ware won the beam and AA titles with 37.70 and placed second on floor, bars and vault where she tied with Bella DeStefano and Gabi Pye. DeStefano won the floor title with 9.65, placed sixth on bars, third AA and tied Saskia Chermayeff for second on beam. Chermayeff swung to first on bars, took fourth on vault, third on floor and second AA. Gabi Pye was also third on bars, fourth AA and tied Holly McGoldrick for fifth on floor. McGoldrick soared to first on vault with 9.6, placed fourth on bars and sixth AA.

Leilani Nguyen took third on vault and beam, sixth on floor and fifth on bars and AA. Paige Domenici was steady for fourth on beam and seventh AA while Kate Wolters took fifth on vault and beam and seventh on floor. Caterina Pye earned sixth on vault and fourth on floor.

The Level 6 squad had their brooms out again as they won the team championship by 6.5 points and swept the AA titles for every age group. Abby Nevin scored a sky-high 39.15 for first AA in the 10-11 group, and also won bars, beam and floor and placed second on vault. Anna Moss vaulted to first with a 9.8, and was second on bars, beam, AA and floor where she tied with teammate Melina Cardini. Cardini also earned third on vault and beam.

Olivia Perkins led the 12s group, taking first on bars, AA and vault with 9.8, second on floor and third on beam. Megan Mitchell was the beam champ with 9.7 and placed third on vault and floor, second AA and tied Sommer Schmidt for fourth on bars. Schmidt was also fourth on vault, fifth on floor and tied Emma Kelly for second on beam. Kelly also took third on bars, fifth on vault and fourth on floor and AA. Sofia Iuteri flipped to the floor title with 9.6, took second on vault, fifth on bars, fourth on beam and third AA.

Nicole Thompson topped the podium in the 13s, winning the bars, floor and AA title with 37.2 and was second on beam and fourth on vault. Emma Neaderland never wavered in scoring 9.85 to win the beam title and took second on vault and floor and fourth AA. Lucy Collins vaulted to first, took second on bars, fourth on floor and sixth AA. Megan Cutler earned fifth on floor and eighth on bars.

In the 15 and up group, Kerry McDermott took the beam and AA titles, placed second on vault and bars and third on floor. Lily Fairleigh swung to first on bars and was fourth on beam and third AA.

The team champion Level 5s were paced by Abby O’Brien, who won the bars, beam, floor and AA titles with 37.80 and placed second on vault in the 11s group. Iris West vaulted to first with 9.6 and was second on beam, fifth on floor and third AA. Anna Primmer took third on beam and fourth on vault, bars and AA.

Sofia Imbrogno topped the podium on vault, bars, beam and AA with 36.35 in the 12s group. In the 13-and-up group, Melanie Vernal vaulted to second, took third on floor, sixth on bars, seventh on beam and fourth AA. Nika Sibley earned fourth on vault and floor, fifth on beam and seventh on bars and AA. Maggie Russell swung to second on bars and was third on vault.

The 10s group was led by Anna Altier who won the bars title and placed second on beam, floor and AA and tied Lauren Smith for fourth on vault. Smith was also fourth AA and third on bars, beam and floor where she tied with Julia Decsi. Decsi won the beam title with a huge 9.9, took second on vault, fourth on bars and third AA. Ali Kolman earned third on vault and fourth on floor.

Tanner Generoso led the team champion Level 4 squad, winning all four events and the AA with 38.15 in the 11 Juniors group. Alexa Bell scored second on vault, bars and AA, fourth on beam and third on floor. Bowen Burns took fourth on vault and bars and fifth on floor while Alannah Morris earned sixth on vault and floor.

In the 8-9 group, Elsa Del Bene placed fifth AA and second on bars and floor where she tied Ellie Davies. Davies won the beam title with 9.55 and was also second on vault. Sophie Root took fourth on vault and fifth on bars and beam while Emily McKee took sixth on bars, floor and beam.

Ava Licata continued her winning ways, topping the podium on beam and AA in the 10s group and taking fifth on vault, third on floor and tying Penelope Arredondo for second on bars. Arredondo was also third on beam and second on floor and AA. Sydney Berk took fourth on vault, fifth on beam, AA and bars where she tied with Annelise Enters and also tied for sixth on floor with Sophia Geffner. Enters was also fourth on floor while Geffner took sixth on bars and beam. Reilly Costello was the champ on vault and floor and second on beam.

Brianna Barrientos topped the podium on vault, bars, floor and AA with 36.90 in the 12s group and took third on beam. Carly Cambareri swung to second on bars, took fifth on floor and fourth on vault and AA. Kira McCreesh vaulted to third and was fifth on bars and eighth on beam and AA while Alexandra Decsi took seventh on vault and sixth on bars.

Doris Winter swept the titles in the 13 and up group, winning all four events and AA with 37.00 Alison Enters was right behind her in second on vault, beam, floor and AA and third on bars. Amelia Kuhn took fourth on vault and fifth on all other events and AA.

The Level 3 team competition was tight, but the Darien squad came out on top. Kayla Koproski led the youngest gymnasts in the 6-7 group, winning beam, floor and AA with 37.90 and placing third on vault and bars. Tess Hennigan was the bars champ with 9.65, took fourth on vault, second on beam and third on floor and AA. Taylor Davies earned third on beam, fourth on floor and fifth AA while Penelope Hahn was fifth on vault and bars.

Olivia Davis captured first on vault, beam and AA with 38.60 and was third on bars and second on floor in the 8 Juniors group. Emily Rizzi took the other two titles, winning bars and floor with 9.75 and 9.8 and placing fourth on vault and second on beam and AA. Avery Hansen was third on vault and fourth on beam, floor and AA while Lily Royce was fourth on bars.

In the 8 Seniors group, Alyana Garcia took second on beam, floor and AA and tied Hannah Reyna for sixth on vault and Molly Zengo for fifth on bars. Reyna was also sixth on beam and seventh on bars and AA. Zengo also vaulted to fifth and took fourth on beam, floor and AA.

Ava Telgheder took fourth on vault and bars and third on floor, beam and AA. Elise Hole earned second on vault and bars, seventh on beam and fifth on floor while Lenette Petrov was fifth on beam and seventh on vault.

Stella Nehro topped the podium on bars and beam in the 9 Juniors group, and was fourth on vault and floor and second AA. Katie Primmer took sixth on vault and floor and third on bars, AA and beam where she tied with Katie Cutler. Cutler was also eighth on vault, fourth on bars, seventh on floor and fifth AA. Alexandra Maniatty earned ninth on vault and floor, fifth on bars and beam and seventh AA while Tanner Shanley was ninth on bars.

Alexandra Kuras scored 38.00 for first AA in the 9 Seniors group and took second on bars and fourth on vault, beam and floor where she tied with Regan Famigletti. Famigletti also won the beam title with 9.65, placed third on bars, second AA and tied Shayna Moeller for eighth on vault. Moeller also earned sixth on beam and seventh on floor and bars while Madeleine McGivney earned fifth on bars, eighth on beam and sixth on floor.

In the 10 Seniors group, Bella Koproski took third on beam, sixth on floor and fourth on vault, AA and bars where she tied Megan Hayes. Hayes was also fifth on vault. Jordan Moss placed third on vault and floor, sixth on bars and fifth on beam and AA. Julia Holmes earned sixth on vault.

Jahnavi Orr was the beam champ with 9.3 in the 10 Juniors group and placed third on vault, bars and AA. In the 11s group, Chloe Sernick took fourth on beam, sixth on vault and ninth on bars, floor and AA.

Theodora Tertiropoulos swung to the bars title with 9.6 in the 12 and up group and placed third on vault, eighth on floor and sixth on beam and AA. Emily Hopper was fifth on floor, sixth on bars, seventh on vault and eighth on beam. Holly Prichard earned fifth on bars, seventh on floor and eighth on vault.

The team will compete next at the YMCA State Championships in April.
