The Darien boys golf team claimed a third place finish at the Division-II state championship at Tallwood Country Club in Hebron on Monday.

The fourth-seeded Blue Wave shot a 309 and finished behind first place Daniel Hand (299) and third place New Canaan (306).

"It was an outstanding season for a young team that few thought would win the East division (17-1) and then challenge for the FCIAC (second place) and state (third place) titles," Darien coach Tom O'Donnell said.

"Though we will miss seniors Kieran Suri and Andrew Morgan, four of the five postseason players will be returning, including our dynamic freshman duo that recorded the two lowest scores at the state tournament," O'Donnell said. "We have every reason to be looking forward to next season -- and we are."
