Three Darien brothers are hosting a community service event on Sept. 22 and 23 at Twin Rinks in Stamford.
Rory, James and Charlie Tait are hockey goalies and two play for the Darien Youth Hockey Association. Over the summer, the boys realized the had plenty of old hockey equipment that should be put to better use.
The boys found two organizations -- New Rochelle Youth Hockey in New York and Restore Hockey in Boston -- that need equipment.
Rory, a freshman at New Canaan Country School created a website and is working with Darien Youth Hockey to get the word out.
The Taits will be at Stamford Twin Rinks on Sept. 22 and 23 between 2 and 7 p.m. As you kit up for the hockey season with new sticks, gloves, skates, helmets and the rest, don't leave last year's cast-offs piled up in the garbage. Instead, put them to good use. Give your old equipment a second life and donate it to kids who otherwise couldn't afford to play hockey. Stamford Twin Rinks will collect the gear and distribute it to youth organizations in New York and Boston.
