Darien clarinetist to perform with Chamber Players

Darien resident and clarinetist Philip Bashor will join the wind quintet and strings of the Chamber Players of the Greenwich Symphony in concert April 13 and 14.

"Cloud Nine -- Winds and Strings Together" will be performed at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at the Round Hill Community Church. 395 Round Hill Road, Greenwich, and at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, at the Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Drive, Greenwich.

The program will include two nonets, which are musical compositions for nine instruments -- five winds and four strings.

On the program is Nonet for Wind Quintet, Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass in F major, Op 31, written in 1813 by German composer and violinist Louis Spohr. The ensemble also will perform Bohuslav Martinu's Nonet for Wind Quintet, Violin, Viola, Cello and Double, Bass H.374, composed in 1959.

Strings and winds will also perform as separate entities in the concerts. All nine of the participating musicians are principals of the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra.

A reception will follow the concerts.
