Darien girls hockey team captures fourth consecutive win

The Darien girls hockey team scored the first six goals of its 6-1 victory over Trumbull/St. Joseph at the Rinks in Shelton on Saturday night.

In the first period, Georgia Cassidy scored to give her team the lead after she was assisted by Marissa Baker and Julia Arrix. Later in the period, Cassidy scored her second goal as Katie Zaro and Chandler Kirby collected assists. Darien boosted its lead to 3-0 by the close of the first period when Ellie Bennett after receiving a pass from Lily Christensen.

In the second period, Darien extended its lead to 5-0 when Sage Thacher scored twice after being assisted by Sammy Nielsen on both goals. Julia Arrix made it 6-0 when she scored after receiving a pass from Kirby.

In the third period, Trumbull's Nina Danforth scored on a breakaway with 38 seconds remaining to help her team avoid the shutout. Danforth was assisted by Kaly Gonski.

Goalie Izzy Scribano picked up the win for Darien, while Gina Moriello took the loss for Trumbull.
