Darien girls hockey team shuts out Wilton/Norwalk/Staples

The Darien girls hockey team came away with a lopsided 9-0 shutout of Wilton/Norwalk/Staples on Monday at the Darien Ice Rink. With the victory, the Blue Wave remained undefeated and improved their record to 6-0-1.

Darien's senior defenseman Lily Christensen notched a hat trick and dished out an assist in the victory.

Georgia Cassidy had the first goal with an assist from Sage Thacher less than one minute into the game, and Lily Christensen scored at the end of the first period for a 2-0 lead.

In the second period, Marissa Baker scored with an assist from Christy Conley, Cassidy scored again with assists from Julia Arrix and Schuyler van den Broek, Christensen scored her second goal with an assist from Thacher, and Arrix scored one her own with one minute left in the period for a 6-0 lead.

In the third, Ellie Bennett scored with an assist from Christensen. Van den Broek added a goal and Christensen finished the night with a hat trick and help from Sammy Nielsen.

Darien goalie Izzy Scribano posted a shutout by making eight saves. Wilton/Norwalk/Staples goalie Brooke Jonsson made 58 saves.

Darien outshot Wilton/Norwalk/Staples 67-8.

Darien clashes with Greenwich Academy in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 4:20 p.m. at to Chelsea Piers.
