Darien girls hockey team tops Ridgefield for seventh win

The Darien girls hockey team picked up a 4-1 win over Ridgefield on Thursday at the Winter Garden Ice Arena.

About three minutes into the opening period, Sage Thacher struck with an unassisted goal. Ellie Bennett scored next with an assist from Thacher and a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.

In the second, Bennett scored again with another assist from Thacher and a little more help from Sammy Nielsen.

Ridgefield's Lucy Wemyss scored in the second period with an assist from Maeve Reilly to cut Darien's lead to 3-1.

In the third period, Ridgefield pulled its goalie when Darien took a penalty with a few minutes left on the clock. Georgia Cassidy scored on the empty net with assists from Lily Christensen and Chandler Kirby.

In the goal for Darien, Shannon Hall made 11 saves. For Ridgefield, Heather Ogden made 25 saves.

With the win, the Blue Wave improved to 7-1-1 (5-0 FCIAC).
